What Does a Purple Lightsaber Mean?

So far we know that there is a good and a bad side to the Star Wars force. It is either that you are the ‘Blue Lightsaber’ Jedi Warriors or you have towed the dark side of the force with a ‘Red Lightsaber’.

Today we will be talking about a new side. That is a blend of both blue and red. That’s right! A bit of both?!

Enters the purple lightsaber.

It has a unique appearance and is one of the strongest weapons of all time. Also, held by notable characters in Star Wars Legends and Star Wars Canon.

More so, George Lucas was successfully able to catch the attention of the fans with a new franchise. We see an innovative idea pop up in Star Wars from time to time. This time a sudden appearance of purple lightsabers did ruffle some feathers.

Let’s look deeper into what stories a purple lightsaber hides!

Meaning of Purple Lightsaber?

Purple is a blend of both red and blue. No, literally and figuratively!

Same thing is represented in Star Wars. The possessors of purple lightsabers had a deep knowledge of both the light and the dark side. They were experts in Jedi Warrior skills and Dark Sides strength.

Another thing is that a purple lightsaber represents a soul’s uncertainty and unstableness.  We already know that a kyber-like crystal is in tune with the characteristics of a wielder. Since the yielders were experts of both sides so they had an open choice in choosing their path. So, it is no surprise that it represents reconstruction and recovery.

In the history of Star Wars lightsabers, purple lightsabers are another one that is directly involved in many innovative things. For example, the crystal is strong enough to cut through literally everything. It has its own purpose. Hence, it found itself in the hands of lone and rigid characters. In that sense this lightsaber also represents isolation, compassion and empathy.

However, if we overlook the fluffy side we will see that purple lightsaber shows sheer will and strength. It was held by Mace Windu, Enar Kun, Anakin Solo and characters that had a precise purpose, were in tune with third strikes but let their motions come into play. These characters let their excitement for glory and impatience escape during the battles.

According to Mace Windu he used his weapon in new art forms,

‘I created Vaapad to answer my own weakness. It channels my own darkness into a weapon of light’.

Purple Lightsaber Fighting Style?

Purple lightsaber true to its color holds a deep insight and focus. It gave the yielders an advantage of a fighting style that was quick and adaptable. It helped the Jedi push against their abilities and give powerful strikes that were precise and sharp.

Not just that but because of the unique unstable nature of the purple lightsaber it also proved to be a reliable dueling weapon. The users had an upper hand associated with smooth motions, controlled strikes and diverse angles. Additionally, because of the strength from both sides of the force it gave the Jedi warriors a clear goal and foresightedness.

You must have picked out one common thing about the purple lightsaber!

It was mostly held by experts who had advanced fighting knowledge and were not simply followers. The yielders had a path that was different from the rest and a passion that was nobody’s business!

Origin of Purple lightsaber?

Purple lightsaber yet again defies the traditional norms. Unlike all lightsabers that were acquired from the cave of Ilium. Purple lightsabers crystal was notably found on the Planet Hurkiane. It came into the hands of a well-known Jedi Master Mace Windu when he fought with a native inhabitant on the planet. He accidentally killed the resident. However, to make up for his action he used his force powers to bring him back. Because of his kind heartedness the inhabitant awarded him with a purple crystal that was unlike the other crystals.

The crystal was unique in shape, angles, thickness and texture. That is also why purple is often associated with kind heartedness and compassion.

It may seem coincidental however Mace Windu has always wanted to build a special lightsaber for himself. A weapon that would match his visions. Because he was unable to do that. He went on a journey to Planet Hurkiane by himself. Where he was gifted the amethyst crystal. Later, he made a new lightsaber with fine designing and craftsmanship.

That lightsaber served him during the Clone Wars against Supreme Chancellor Palpatine.  The very weapon also helped him develop a new combat form. The seventh advanced form also known as Juyo/ Vapaad, the way of the Vornskr. A form that derived its power from the dark side.

The Very First Appearance?

The first time a purple crystal was featured in Star Wars was in relation to the Republic Star Wars Clone Jedi Master Mace Windu. From 1995 to 2005 a special lightsaber was introduced in the prequel series.

Mace Windu was a foreseer. He saw himself using a purple lightsaber. Now it was nowhere to be found in the usual place. With kindness, wit and intelligence Mace Windu was able to get himself a purple lightsaber.

Seeing this journey we are able to uncover the sudden appearance and meaning of a unique purple lightsaber. How courageous and emotional the yielders are with not much to deter them from their path!

However, there is more to the story. A request that challenged the Star Wars producer to add something new to the series. Read on to find out!

Star Wars Legends & Star Wars Canon?

We know all about Mace Windu. Although he is a famous Jedi master associated with the purple lightsaber. However, he is not the only one to occupy the Star Wars spotlight!

If we uncover the Star Wars Ultimate Universe we are able to explore more characters that are not Mace Windu. In Star Wars legends the appearances of purple lightsabers were no surprise.

For Example Revan who always had a penchant for the dark side was reborn as Sith Darth Revan. He crossed over to the dark side and sided with dark force with a purple lightsaber. He created his own Sith Empire and caused chaos in the Republic. During his fight against the Jedi.

Let’s talk about Mara Jade who was trained by Darth Sidious himself. Although later she converted to the good side of the force and fought with Luke Skywalker. Initially she trained and learned to use her purple lightsaber to fight against Jedi. Another thing that most fans argue is that her lightsaber was more pink than purple.

Finally, comes a character that gave in to the dark side’s pull but bought himself right back.  Kyp Duroon was an emotional man whose desire for vengeance was very strong. He fell into a spell where he caused massive destruction against the Imperial Order. To the point that he killed his own brother. Furthermore, his actions were influenced by Exar Kun because of his power in the ways of force and dueling.

However, after regaining his composure Kyp Durron served the Light side with new passion under the new Jedi Order.

They say if an actor has an influence on the character’s decisions he has played that good. Probably knows about the character as much as the producer.

Samuel L. Jackson wanted a different lightsaber. He plays the character Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy. While preparing for his role he realized that during the Attack of Clones war scene his lightsaber will blend in with the white and green lightsabers.

He requested the producer to introduce a new color to stand out Mace Windu’s fight. At first the idea was resisted by George Lucas. However, he was later sold on the idea and a new colored lightsaber was introduced in the series. Good thing the fans loved the new lightsaber!
